Finding Your Rhythm, Whatever Your Level
Every dancer remembers the class where the beat finally clicked — when counting melted into feeling. Our instructors engineer that moment deliberately: clapping drills, call-and-response footwork and tempo ladders that take a step from half-time to full-speed without panic.
Beginners start with the pulse — marching the downbeat, then layering the syncopation. Intermediate dancers work the spaces between beats: the delayed body roll in salsa, the laid-back pocket in house. Advanced batches improvise over live percussion, where there is nowhere to hide and everything to discover.
Practise Tips From Our Coaches
First, dance small: drill new timing in your kitchen before you bring it to the studio floor. Second, record yourself — the camera hears rushing you cannot feel. Third, take one social or jam night a month; nothing teaches timing like an unpredictable partner or a live drummer.
Our monthly groove workshop is free for all enrolled students and open to guests — bring a friend and find your beat together.
